  • Easy to use, especially if you download the app.  The app works in a similar way to Tinder where you swipe right if you are interested in connecting with a person, and swipe left if you are not interested
  • Matches are based on interest categories that you enter into your profile.  I found that in general, the matches were pretty accurate, however a person can enter something as an interest, but may not necessarily have any expertise in that area, which makes it not idea for recruiting for a specific skill set
  • You can only communicate with someone that also indicates that they are interested in your profile.  I found that people could get around that by searching for your profile on LinkedIn and then sending you an InMail, which sort of defeats the purpose of the app, but makes it more useful for recruiters who want to communicate with someone who has not shown an interest
  • The app is a bit buggy.  One time I tried to like a profile, and a different profile came up.  So I ended up matching with the wrong person.
  • You can only do things like rewind, search and match to a different location if you pay to get the Pro functionality
  • There may be a lot of overlap between LinkedIn and Shapr, since they are both networking platforms.  The concept of Shapr is neat in that it allows you to connect only with people that are interested in meeting you and vice versa.  However, since it is  possible to bypass this by messaging someone on LinkedIn, it seems like it would be easier to just message someone on LinkedIn, hoping that they will respond.  Also, LinkedIn allows you to search for free, so you can easily find people you are looking for using key words.
  • I like that you just get batches of 15 people each day presented to you.  It makes the process of networking pretty effortless as you would only need a few minutes each day to review profiles.  However, if you are recruiter and in a hurry to find someone, this is not ideal.  You can also use the Search function, in Pro, but again since you are only searching interests and not actual skills, this is not ideal for recruiting either.
Summary:  Shapr is a neat little tool that one can use on a daily basis to look for people to connect with, and takes up very little time.  As a tool for recruiting, LinkedIn is much more powerful for searching and messaging candidates.
