Summary
Workshape.io began with a conversation between two friends tired of being called by recruiters for work they no longer wanted to do.
Reliance on the traditional artefacts of recruitment - CVs and Job descriptions - means that you always get contacted for the job you did last, not for the one you want to do now.
This is one of the reasons why ‘recruitment is broken’ - we are using the wrong tools to describe work.

A question that has always been asked figuratively, but maybe its time to answer it literally. Breaking down a job by the time spent on different tasks within it, we used a radar plot to make a visually representation of the work - the Workshape.
Unlike a CV, your Workshape can be instantly matched to opportunities from great Startups looking to hire, without the need for recruiters to guess about your fit.

What is Workshape.io?
Workshape is a talent matching service for Startups. We’re a two sided marketplace where Engineers (‘Users’) and Startups (‘Customers’) discover each other through being matched on their ‘Workshapes’ - visual representations of work, measured by time distribution across universal software engineering tasks.
What problem are you solving?
We’re taking the rhetoric out of recruiting. The conventional artefacts - CV’s and Job adverts - are marketing documents which do not adequately describe the individual or the opportunity. Indeed, they are misleading by design - hence the need to ‘sell’ oneself or the ‘sell the job’ in any interaction in a recruiting process. At Workshape, we believe that such misdirection no longer has any place in Startup - we want an honest, transparent and grokkable way to describe work individuals want to do and the opportunities in companies in which to do them.
How do you solve this problem?
Matching services fail because the accuracy is not high enough to generate trust. At Workshape, we believe that a big part of the problem is in the ambiguity of text. Software engineering in one organisation might be very different from another, even though the same words are used to describe the work. By replacing text with a measure of time distribution across universal software engineering tasks we provide an opportunity where comparisons can be visualised.
Who are your users?
Software engineers, Web developers, Web designers, Ops Engineers, Technical Architects, QA & Testing professionals - any individual that is involved in building the web. We plan to expand the service to include all tech workers from Sales to Product to Marketing, but for now our focus is on the Engineers who are building the internet

Our service matches Workshapes based on aspiration. We believe that anyone would be interested in an opportunity which perfectly matched to that aspiration.

Our service is useful to an Engineer, irrespective of whether he or she is actively seeking work. After the initial (and we hope, pain free) set up costs of making your Workshape, we will do all the heavy lifting in connecting you to awesome Startups that have well matched opportunities.

We match based on the comparison between the User Workshape and the Opportunity Workshape.

Our ranking system is based on how closely the corresponding Workshapes match.
What is to prevent users from ‘gaming’ the system?
We do not show unmatched opportunities. At Workshape, we believe in-demand talent want to only see high signal-to-noise, so only those opportunities which are close matches will be shown to Users
